Zebra Wedding Receptions

: PJ Harvey at the Olympia - 25/02/2011

A of the few advantages of the thirties, finally crossing the thirties, is to be offered gifts. Like a weekend in Paris with, starts the second and final concert PJ Harve y the Olympia. The perfect gift.

After a whirlwind start in Rennes, arriving in Paris no less speed, just in time to greet our guest and to turn our suitcase and we (me and Mrs., so) rushes into the Olympia, with eyes that shine. Bah yeah, Olympia, whatever. And PJ Harvey, at that. It is not every day an opportunity to see an artist on stage that goes with you since you're interested in music ...

The wait is not very long but people like myself let us win by the excitement. Clearly, the English will not have to convince the public it is strongly committed to its cause and the apparent unqualified (I'm actually quite surprised, it is far from the public sometimes a bit static and discrete rooms where I have my little habits, and Ubu Antipode top).

8:30 p.m. on the dot, lights out. PJ Harvey on stage, along with John Parish , Mick Harvey and Jean-Marc Butty. Exactly the same as backing band during the concert broadcast Arte on Live Web the previous week and on Let Shake England, his last album. The group is positioned at the far right of the stage, she is left PJ, illuminated by a single lawsuit, so shower light shower (thank you for the accuracy, Gwendal), which it deviates when not singing . Apart from this detail, the stage device is extremely simple. Amplifiers are placed on wooden chairs, Mick Harvey is sitting on a bench, also made of wood, which looks out of a church. Visually, it looks like more in a Hootenanny in a rock concert, especially when PJ takes his autoharp.

From the first pieces, all from England Let Shake, I go into the concert. Everything is of great subtlety, the band fades beautifully behind the voice of PJ. Some of his climbs, high in the treble, stick me chills incredible. I even messed with her rendition of The Devil , the song that opens the exciting White Chalk. PJ Harvey is a great singer, she has mastered all vocal registers, from the head voice very acute and crystalline up to the chest voice, deep and warm. Certainly, we are quite far from the iconic image of a rock singer, tense and electric. But PJ Harvey went on to something else, like it or not. Just listen White Chalk Let England and Shake to realize it.

90 minutes of music, punctuated by a few "thanks" and "thank you", nothing more. Again, we are in a very sober. Even if it sounds a bit corny, it's more the blueprint that the voltage rock'n'roll PJ Harvey seems to seek. And it suits me perfectly. Moreover, the entire setlist (very oriented to the new album), the song is the most electric the most fit-in, Meet ze Monsta , I like the least. I find it a bit overplayed, not necessarily in its place. After a recall of 10 minutes and a magical web and e Angelin Silence, the lights come back. It's over and although the public seems not to believe, PJ Harvey will not be back on stage.

I left for my blown away by the impressive presence of the singer. It occupies a space incredible. Although the musicians are not strangers, they had eyes only for her. Although a bit short, I will keep the memory of a great concert. According to the feedback heard at the exit or gleaned from the web, impressions seem mixed, a lot of people seem to regret the PJ Harvey first three albums, the singer in lipstick incendiary and highly erotic aura. Again, it has evolved towards a more folk, who can certainly disorienting, but nevertheless perfectly logical, coherent. And gave rise to a very beautiful album, which takes on a whole other dimension on stage (In the Dark Places and Hanging in the Wire are sublime) and, therefore, an excellent concert.

I do not know when I have the opportunity to find it on stage. I do not know what his music will be made then. But I already know that it will be with infinite pleasure that I will continue to monitor his work and almost flawless discography. And I also know that I can brag of having time for my thirtieth birthday, an incredible gift. Even though the idea of growing old does'm having no more than that, I tell myself that there still very good ways to spend those caps. PJ Harvey and his nearly 42 years is one.

For the full setlist of the concert, is where it happens !

SebastiAn "Total" X Rated: The clip censored

Just posted, once removed from YouTube and Dailymotion, the video trailer SebastiAn compiles images more trash out of the net in recent years. Provocative, message or advertisement? I know nothing and I do not even know if that's the official trailer or a fake, and I do not care, but in principle I do not see why this type (which incidentally makes a most honorable electro overall) would not be allowed to publish this video. So ... To you the official trailer clip or not X Rated.

Edit: After little investigation, it appears although it is the official trailer (but semi-borne, I said it does)

James Blake, Lia Ices and Glasser in Antipode Rennes

This year, new to the road of rock that was embarking on a concert in Rennes, a kind of pre-road, with Lia Ices, Glasser and James Blake. Innovation has also been appreciated since the room was full (or nearly so) for this concert on February 17.
Remaining consistent with its usual programming, the proposed here Antipode tea flavors pop attractive. Moreover, all Rennes music had moved (Because there are a whole Rennes, yes, yes). Could see beyond deci François Floret the boss of the road rock and Jean Louis Brossard, that of Trans, Rennes and a few musicians aspiring dentists, members of Alter1Fo mess, journalists or France3 Paplar , culture of bloggers, a fan of shoegaze label Ideal Crash, the babes to dress short, fans of Finistère Beiruth confetti and a cult following heterogeneous trend indie / hipster / bohemian my faith very nice attendance.
is unfortunately almost the only thing I take from this nice evening that and the beers at the bar of Antipode (where a horribly complex system is set up to access the bar, long live the joys of the association, as I explained Lisen).

Lia Ices

The evening begins with what is believed to be the starter: Lia Ices , friendly group of Brooklyn Bjork trend with little annoying tendency of doing the same song repeatedly (yes, yes, I know, it's called an atmosphere, but too much atmosphere it's called boredom at home). The girl is the trend in hair cell with broken voice breaks that seems so fashionable these days, the melodies are cute. We want three songs before heading to the bar.

Glasser
Following the program with Glasser, as I did not expect much, I was not too disappointed by the appearance of the girl and her funny hat with tassels dangling Inca. Same vocal effects for music but Lia Ices weighs soon everyone, sort of by Gang Gang Dance Fever mixed in with Ray. I'll be honest, I found it frankly uninteresting, and I think I was not alone in view of the crowd at the bar at that time.

James Blake
Finally comes the darling of the moment English, Jaaaaames Blake. If the album had just caught the ear with its dubstep tunes frozen, live and self-tune abuse will quickly discourage me. The effects of reverb, vocoder, poor little melodies and James Blake sits almost invisible on the side of the room, he does not need more that we review the bar quickly enough after a few giggles from Lisen on the use that can make James Blake its keyboard. However, much of the public seems to have appreciated, as among others, Mr. FM-R Festival.

So one evening in the whole disappointing, as seen from my side anyway, I look forward to tomorrow night to find the Route du Rock in St Malo with Cold War Kids, for a fuller understanding with Antipode, I think it will be for the white card gabled with among others Tire and Hair in March.

Road Rock, Wye Oak replaces Junip

The American duo Wye Oak Junip replace tomorrow night at The Omnibus. Originally from Baltimore, Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack will release their third album Civilian ( Merge / City Slang) on 4 March (see website road rock ). Their music sounds indie-pop, but they claim influences the direction of the noise and the dream-pop (thank you wikipedia)

Chronicle # 04 since my bed

this week, I doubt the possibility for me to sleep at a time when I'm supposed to make me sleep on Thursday. You tell me that this young chronic already lost all its meaning, and that's too bad. To apologize, I offer an abundance of unhealthy food mix (like my youth). The group Rennes We Only Said does not care about the famine in the Third World and its fun to rot Florian nice singer with lots of stuff to eat. Yummy Baby.

We Only Said I saw in concert two weeks ago, with most charming as Laetitia Sheriff bass, I advise you. OK, the tour is over (or almost, a date tonight in Roubaix, a Metz tomorrow) but I think they are smart and they will re others a little later.

Rock Road winter Junip cancels

Due to health problems of Jose Gonzalez, Junip is forced to cancel his entire European tour, and therefore its scheduled next Friday at The Route du Rock . That's what we learned the site of the rock road on Tuesday. The group will be replaced. The road to rock winter, festival that has a little bad luck from the cancellation of The XX last year (the singer had lost his father) and the year before, those of Gang Gang Dance (whose gear was burned) and Deerhunter (whose singer was sick). Once we know more about the group replacing Junip, I tell you this.

Puffer Sailboat Review

The Phantom Band at Ubu - Rennes

It happened to me one day something very strange. Imagine that I was doing my shopping at Carrefour, the fruit and vegetables, salads and between the zucchini, when suddenly I felt my whole body thrashing. As if a sudden all vital functions were disorganized, the heart was beating quickly, blurred vision, legs trembling, breathing quickened. Imagine a physical phenomenon, both frightening and comforting, a total well-being that invades the body and head. I looked up and in front of me, there was a man I still would not be able to describe, and because of this weather disturbance of the senses, it was him.

The Phantom Band - Photo Lisen LZ

Hey The Phantom Band well gives me more or less the same feeling. The first time in 2009 Transmusicales , was the case this year at Ubu (and his famous post boucheur of view), it was again the same sensation. Beyond the pleasure hormone almost bought by the vision of Rick Anthony (whose charming voice competes with that of his bearded face), the music of these ghosts gladdens Scottish hearts of those who plunges. Wild horses galloping, heavy rhythms and haunting, choir or light warriors, The Phantom Band provides music at first quite protean and we can distinguish the rock, of course, electronica and sounds a bit on the edge of the ballad écossaise.Si album "Savage Checkmate" offered a dark and tense atmosphere based on the voice of Rick Anthony, The Wants, the most recent, is heavily loaded with vocal harmonies and synthesizer.

The Phantom Band - Photo Lisen LZ

These are also the songs of The Wants to be the most highlighted when set, although we heard some older titles like The Howling. That night, Rick seemed tired, his features just learned, and glasses of whiskey on stage were less frequent than two years ago. Her voice faltered at times, but despite these imperfections, when eyes closed profile, jumping up and swaying to the rhythm of the drums he entered a trance, it was impossible not to follow. When the front, his liquid brown eyes fixing the crowd, the index pointing to the sky, he sang in haranguing the crowd, it was impossible not to be persuaded and when finally, facing the audience sang him Happy Birthday for her timidly birthday, he gave a small smile fragile, it was impossible not to be affected.

Rick Anthony
to Trans 2009 - Froggy's Delight photo

And then, beyond the personality of Rick Anthony himself, there is the group, six of thirty years for most of them, obviously versed in concert without ever playing the jaded. A drummer to support this powerful dark rock, keyboard for notes or softer electro's latest album, two guitarists / bassists and rhythm guitar playing almost non stop back to the scene. The musicians seem comfortable with each other, comfortable with the crowd with which they exchange a few words in French, even asking if it is safe us, when everyone is calling for an encore. That's what we ca also be worth the time in my opinion the most intense of the entire set, ten-minute climb good rock hypnotic that has not disowned Can or Neu! resulting in the packed room to a hallucinatory trance, Brossard nodded furiously behind the scenes of the chief, Lisen swung rhythmically, as for me I had to have everything the carp gaping and eyes wide open. It is on this magnificent technical knockout that ended the evening, and since I'm in love with a tall, bearded Scottish whiskey lover left with his group on Europe's roads to deliver the good word of rock.

This Saturday, February 19, evening at the Stables Garage Rock'n'Roll crazy
21h, 10 .-

Rock This Town Extrafine this two groups who have already been beaten on soil Geneva: The Jackets vs. Jack of Heart

First came Berne, faithful friends , The Jackets . Already there at the concert of Reverend Beat-Man in Red Pepper, then at Moloko in the first part of this group of crazy come to Iowa today 60agénaires all developed countries, and based on the Nuggets compilation , the Gonn! Magnificent old-school trio but authorities ultra-modern. With Jackie singing. As the wife of Popeye with this magical little guitar and his voice hoarse, she is a bit of rock 'n roll Olive! Huge and strange, funny and beautiful, surrounded on Drums and Chris Schmid on bass, she has made this group's most outspoken and dancing groups of rock and roll country. From Garage-Beat, and 60's-soul, that say? and a super sharp key psyche, we wanted to have finally done and the Stables. To fans of the Sonics and the Kinks, but also Runaways and Slits! yeah> thejackets.ch

Then Jack of Heart . Label Born Bad which are also from the Magnetix. Garage cowboy desert twilight blending melodies and folk ballads to acid groups ... on acid. Such as 13th Floor Elevators , Chocolate Watch Band , Blue Magoos ... but as we like to repeat something of Lee Hazlewood and Dylan. With their singer is a cross between Pierrot Lunar and Patrick Dewaere, and strange musicians, among children-punk hipsters, with Black Lips and Jefferson Airplane, they released a disc full of superb compositions and exquisite violence reverb and delay! We really love them, they will this time and no longer than 4 to 3 as in the cellar of the cliffs, and like to take 96 tears, we hope to hear.

also been reported on the decks in addition to Lady Black Sally we will not show, DJ Jack La Menace, great heroes of rock'n'roll Romand, strong and disarming with his hits total yéyé and knowledge of history music of the 20th century!

What To Wear For The Dunk Tank

Twitview: The Foggy Girls Club

Carole is 23 years. In life, she wrote a memoir about Sofia Coppola and Wes Anderson drags in concert halls and bars in Paris. Her parents created the festival Art Rock de St Brieuc, music is inevitably a bit for her.

Berenger is a Berry which is exported: several years in the rock'n'roll Rennes before moving to Paris, where he handles the digital catalog of Wagram Music Digital.

Two, they created the Foggy Girls Club, music blog very oriented indie rock (indie but really kind). I highly recommend you to download their compilations, my main source of musical discovery since last summer.

1 A childhood memory related to music?
Carol: When I was in CM2 my parents had recorded the Beatles' White Album on side A of a cassette, and music of the Rolling Stones on side B. We listened in the car loop. But back then I was much more Beatles! My mother knew the words by heart and strength to hear her sing in the car, I began to know them by heart too. The Beatles is my first real shot in the heart of music. I spent hours in my bed, recite their words by heart. After
, as my parents created the festival Art Rock (Saint-Brieuc, 22), I have always been steeped in music. And memories are multiplying. My meeting with ex-bassist Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads, Chris Frantz and her husband and ex-drummer for Talking Heads, my handshake with Patti Smith, one of my idols. There also I met Julian Casablancas, the Old Ploughs. I was really excited ... "Is This It" is the first album I bought, I was in 4th.

Berenger: The vinyl cover of Kiss (Destroyer and live) my father and uncles in my grandparents who fascinated me. The voice of Lou Reed when I was little that rocked me pretty (the doo doo do do Walk on the Wild Side, for example I was really little marked). Ado, Frank Black to Bourges changing guitar (keep it on) to each song and ends his concert with a dozen guitars on the back.

2 A song for you out?
Carol: The first one that comes to mind is "Horses" by Patti Smith. There are rock and poetry, literature. I love Patti Smith because she came to rock with the words, just like me. But the list is long!

Berenger: Foggy Notion The Velvet summarizes it pretty well what I love about music.

3 The best musical moment live?
Carole: Again the list is long! I loved the show at Ubu Fancy in 2008. I must say that I was in my period glam rock ... I would also mention Late of the Pier at La Cigale. Incredible power. Crocodiles at Radio House, and Ty Segall at Point FMR.

Berenger: All I guess otherwise why continue? Otherwise the horse Rock is a discount with Maria False & Co the RDR. Pavement recently made me shudder though. And meeting Dee Dee Dum Dum Girls of course haha!

4 You're already "had" by a group or song that you liked it before you realize that it was the stew?
Carol: No. Destiny's Child even worth it!

Berenger I'm little but I have listened to the beautiful younger than shit I assume most of all! it's part of music education ... and after the good influences remain. Silverchair well loved at the time ...

5 The addictive song, one that you do comes out of your head?
Carol: "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" The Smiths. I can not listen to him for several weeks and continue to hear in my head.

Berenger: "I Do not Know Where It Comes From" Ride. Any Smiths or Morrissey song immediately after listening.

6 According to you, what should not exist in music?
Carol: The reason

Berenger: The complacency and worldliness.

7 The thing that everyone talks about but get excited to death?
Carol: The hipsters. It is a cultural and societal phenomenon very interesting. But it tends to lock up young people in a straitjacket. If you listen Ty Segall, you're hipster. If you go to Point FMR, you're hipster. You make your memory about Sofia Coppola and Wes Anderson? You're such a hispster! It fills me. (The irony is that I am the first to criticize their distance, their irony. So the hipsters annoy me not too bad!)

Berenger: Nicolas Sarkozy annoys me. In music, Animal Collective, I do not understand. And finally I fear the return of Radiohead, as their way of being and irritates everyone will talk about it.

8 The thing nobody talks about but that you love?
Berenger: Women, especially their latest album Public Strain. The few people who have spoken very well spoken but otherwise they went quite unnoticed despite their incredible talent. They are still separated but I think a new song was released recently (Bullfight) and kills ... yet. Segall and Ty too! Why does it turn no longer here?

9 A site / blog of music that you read regularly and why?
Carol: There is none. Finally, I read very little about music, and very disjointed: some articles Inrocks, some Pitchfork, a little vice. I am doing much on the blog of drawings Marion Candy . They are often more powerful than an article ...

Berenger: Pitchfork. I am not always agree with them but they still cover very well the indie scene, is a reference.

10 A bad taste that you assume perfectly?
Carol: I have a penchant for Justin Bieber ("baby, baby, baby ouuuuh, it's still too much in the head!)

Berenger: The songs of fascists Sardou, with his words completely outrageous and violent. And also Justin Bieber and his song Baby.

10a (the Carzon) A regret?
Carol: Do not have the courage to launch myself headlong into a project.

Berenger: Do not be born in Manchester a few years earlier or may not be in San Francisco right now. Do not speak fluent German.
