Puffer Sailboat Review

The Phantom Band at Ubu - Rennes

It happened to me one day something very strange. Imagine that I was doing my shopping at Carrefour, the fruit and vegetables, salads and between the zucchini, when suddenly I felt my whole body thrashing. As if a sudden all vital functions were disorganized, the heart was beating quickly, blurred vision, legs trembling, breathing quickened. Imagine a physical phenomenon, both frightening and comforting, a total well-being that invades the body and head. I looked up and in front of me, there was a man I still would not be able to describe, and because of this weather disturbance of the senses, it was him.

Hey The Phantom Band well gives me more or less the same feeling. The first time in 2009 Transmusicales , was the case this year at Ubu (and his famous post boucheur of view), it was again the same sensation. Beyond the pleasure hormone almost bought by the vision of Rick Anthony (whose charming voice competes with that of his bearded face), the music of these ghosts gladdens Scottish hearts of those who plunges. Wild horses galloping, heavy rhythms and haunting, choir or light warriors, The Phantom Band provides music at first quite protean and we can distinguish the rock, of course, electronica and sounds a bit on the edge of the ballad écossaise.Si album "Savage Checkmate" offered a dark and tense atmosphere based on the voice of Rick Anthony, The Wants, the most recent, is heavily loaded with vocal harmonies and synthesizer.

These are also the songs of The Wants to be the most highlighted when set, although we heard some older titles like The Howling. That night, Rick seemed tired, his features just learned, and glasses of whiskey on stage were less frequent than two years ago. Her voice faltered at times, but despite these imperfections, when eyes closed profile, jumping up and swaying to the rhythm of the drums he entered a trance, it was impossible not to follow. When the front, his liquid brown eyes fixing the crowd, the index pointing to the sky, he sang in haranguing the crowd, it was impossible not to be persuaded and when finally, facing the audience sang him Happy Birthday for her timidly birthday, he gave a small smile fragile, it was impossible not to be affected.

And then, beyond the personality of Rick Anthony himself, there is the group, six of thirty years for most of them, obviously versed in concert without ever playing the jaded. A drummer to support this powerful dark rock, keyboard for notes or softer electro's latest album, two guitarists / bassists and rhythm guitar playing almost non stop back to the scene. The musicians seem comfortable with each other, comfortable with the crowd with which they exchange a few words in French, even asking if it is safe us, when everyone is calling for an encore. That's what we ca also be worth the time in my opinion the most intense of the entire set, ten-minute climb good rock hypnotic that has not disowned Can or Neu! resulting in the packed room to a hallucinatory trance, Brossard nodded furiously behind the scenes of the chief, Lisen swung rhythmically, as for me I had to have everything the carp gaping and eyes wide open. It is on this magnificent technical knockout that ended the evening, and since I'm in love with a tall, bearded Scottish whiskey lover left with his group on Europe's roads to deliver the good word of rock.
